Why do we explore the Moon? The history of human lunar exploration, the past, present, and future of China’s lunar exploration program, and how lunar exploration drives scientific and technological innovation.
Xu Zhihai, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the College of Optical Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University; Qiushi Distinguished Scholar; Provincial Special Expert of Zhejiang Province; recipient of the State Council Special Government Allowance. Research Directions: Optical Imaging Engineering. As project leader, he has undertaken national 973 Program, National Natural Science Foundation, basic research, civilian aerospace pre-research, lunar and planetary exploration engineering payload development, and other scientific research projects. Authored 4 academic monographs, published over 120 SCI/EI papers; granted over 80 national patents. Received 2 first prizes at provincial/ministerial level for scientific and technological achievements. Awarded honors including Zhejiang Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding Communist Party Member in Zhejiang Higher Education Institutions, and twice received joint commendation from six national ministries and commissions for the Chang’e series missions of the lunar exploration program.
