With their distinctive structural and physicochemical properties, low-dimensional functional materials provide a key foundation for next-generation high-performance functional devices. This seminar reviews the precise synthesis and device applications of low-dimensional functional materials, focusing on the team's recent progress in nanoscale soft-magnetic thin films for the GHz frequency range, high-performance lithium-battery electrode materials, and related functional devices. It will also examine current technical bottlenecks and scientific challenges and discuss the importance of interdisciplinary integration across materials science, physics, and chemistry in the development of functional materials and devices, with the aim of fostering in-depth exchange and discussion with faculty and students.
Dongliang Peng is a professor and holds two doctoral degrees, one in science (China, 1997) and one in engineering (Japan, 2002). He is a Nanqiang Distinguished Professor at Xiamen University, a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2008), chief scientist of a National Key R&D Program project, an expert receiving the State Council Special Government Allowance, an Outstanding Teacher of Fujian Province, a selected member of Fujian Province's New Century Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talent Project, and a Fujian Province Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent. His research focuses on energy materials and devices, magnetic materials and spintronics, and low-dimensional functional materials and devices. He has led numerous research projects, including projects funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Key R&D Program, the National Major Scientific Research Program (973 Program), and Key Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 390 research papers in leading journals including PNAS, Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, and Angewandte Chemie International Edition. He holds six authorized Japanese invention patents and 21 authorized Chinese invention patents.
